Candle Magick - The ritual of effecting change upon ones environment through the use of Candles.

I thought this would be a good topic considering that Yule is almost upon us and Imbolc or Candlemas is in February. For those who might read this article and not understand what magick is I will give a small explanation.

It is quite simply the ritual of affecting change upon ones environment. Anything that uses energy in any form to cause change to something else could be considered magick. Your kitchen stove uses electricity to heat food until it is cooked. That in itself is a form of magick based upon the definition. Candle magick as stated above affects change upon the environment you live in through the use of lighted candles. Now I know what some of you are thinking. How can lighting a candle change my environment? Well think for a moment. Have you ever come in from a hard day ran a warm bath and lit a candle? We refer to it as atmosphere but that atmosphere made a difference in your mood didnt it.

Candle Magick uses the power of the element fire (the flame) with the power of the element earth (the candle) to heat air and light the area. By providing light and heat it changes the environment and in doing so changes the situation at hand. But those same changes can be used to create other changes. If you add color and fragrance to a candle it burns at a different level of heat causing a different effect upon the environment.

There are many books that include info about candle magick today; all of them provide basically the same information just with different observations as well as their own way of performing the rituals. I wont bore you with ritual if you wish to have a prewritten ritual you can try any of these books. This article is for the basic purpose of adding elements to your daily life to help it without any huge and elaborate ritual.

I am going to list Candle colors and the effect it has on the environment here. These correspondences can be found in just about any magical book today but I choice to take it from the website Enchanted Encounters

Red CAUTION!!!!=Base Attributes Depending on HUE can be VERY DANGEROUS. Please stay with the lighter shades. Physical pleasures, Stimulating, Lust, Anger/ Hate/ Marriage/ Courage/ Strength Enemies/ Peril

Ill give an example of this, If you want to rekindle love between you and an old boyfriend/girlfriend and you use dark red instead of a lighter shade, you very well could either find yourself with a stalker or someone who hates you so much they cant stand to be in the same room with you. Caution is always necessary when dealing with emotion.
